Happy New Year (again)

Happy Chinese New Year!  To commemorate the year of the dragon, I thought it would be fun to light paint one, which um…. turn out to be harder than I thought.

So instead, I tried out my inner Harry Potter.  Lumos!

Happy New Year

The build up to Christmas usually starts up in earnest around November, so there’s a good month and a half before it comes.  New Year kind of gets tossed at you like a copy of the Yellow Pages.  You’re standing on the front porch enjoying a cup of morning coffee and then, BAM, next thing you know there’s a big yellow book in your face.  (Okay, so maybe we don’t all get hit in the face with a phone book, but you get the point)

The point is that New Year comes very quickly and people scramble to make resolutions that don’t last to President’s Day.  This year, I’ve tried to give it more thought .  Here are some things I hope to accomplish this year.

  • Read though the whole Bible
  • Work more efficiently and try to cut down on 80 hour weeks.
  • Spend more time with my daughter
  • Shoot a wedding outside of the US
  • Blog more
  • Bike more
  • Read through the half dozen photography books sitting on my shelf
  • Stop tinkering with misc projects that take me away from photography (I write this with two iMacs,a half dozen PCs is disrepair staring at me)
  • Experiment more with lighting
  • Try stinky tofu

What are some of your New Year Goals?

And because every post is more interested with a picture, here’s one of my little ham at a recent shoot.

First of all, how cute is your daughter!?! 2nd of all, my husband LOVES stinky tofu, you must try it (even though I refuse to). And lastly, happy New Year!!!

Stephen Leung - January 2, 2012 - 7:50 pm

Thanks Christina! My wife has been trying to get me to try stinky tofu for years, I promised her I would at least try. Still don’t know why it has to smell so stinky! =p

Maisie and Darren – Claremont Family Portraits

I’ve known Maisie pretty much since our family moved to America.  We grew up at the same church together and our families hung out so often that I felt like part of their family.  Our parent’s are very reminiscent of Lucy and Ethel from “I Love Lucy,” they are always hanging out and getting into all sorts of mischief!

Maisie has since moved to Texas, but she and her husband were in town for Christmas so we had a chance to meet up with the whole family at the Claremont Colleges.

Maisie with her twin sisters, Maida and Mailin.  I still remember visiting their house right after the twins were born, now they are all grown up!

Uncle Kit is always the center of attention =)

He’s quite the comedian, spend five minutes with him and you’re guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face =)

Auntie Penny with her girls =)

Thanks Maisie and Darren for spending hanging out and for the delicious dinner =)  Hope you guys have a wonderful New Year!

Tony and Tami – Pasadena Wedding

I can’t believe that Christmas is only a day away!  There’s still so much left to do, but I wanted to share some pictures of Tony and Tami’s wedding from earlier this month.  We had some record Santa Ana winds the week earlier, but thankfully everything got cleaned up just in time for their wedding =)  Special thanks to Anita for coordinating the wedding and Steven Nguyen for shooting with me that day =)

Don’t you love the detailed sequins on her dress?

Making sure every detail is just perfect for her perfect day.

Tami’s cousin and mom put on the finishing touches on her dress.

Meanwhile, Tony was busy folding handkerchiefs for his groomsman.  Even on his wedding day, he made sure that everyone else was taken care of first.

What better way to travel than in a vintage Rolls Royce?

With all the details squared away, Tami heads downstairs to meet her handsome groom.

Their first look =)

Before the ceremony, we stopped by Pasadena City Hall for some portraits with the bridal party.

Aren’t these two just perfect for each other? =)

After Pasadena City Hall, we headed down to Oneonta Congregational Church in South Pasadena for the ceremony,

After the ceremony we headed down to Ocean Star Restaurant in Monterey Park for the reception.  Instead of a tradition cake, Tony and Tami decided to use delicious cream puffs!

Their first dance together as husband and wife =)

Tami having a good time with her girls =)

Some of the guests dared Tony to try the Peking Duck, which he quickly obliged =)

Giving her dad a big hug as they shared a father-daughter dance.

Tony showing his silly side =)

Getting a taste of those cream puffs!Reliving childhood moments as they watched their slideshow.

Dancing the night away with friends and family.

Congratulations Tony and Tami!  Thanks for letting me part of your special day, hope you guys have a wonderful honeymoon and first Christmas and New Years together!

Venue: Oneonta Congregational Church
